Just a glimpse of what we are building together…
The Nuclear-Free Colorado statewide coalition began as Nuclear-Free Pueblo — a grassroots effort that Roots to Resilience members and staff were instrumental in launching in 2021, after Pueblo County Commissioners proposed siting a small modular nuclear reactor in our community. Already burdened by disproportionate impacts from heavy industry and energy generation, Pueblo deserves better — and local leaders stepped up to organize.
Today, our coalition challenges nuclear expansion at every level of government, recognizing that the nuclear-industrial complex is driven by a powerful alliance of corporate interests, political actors, and taxpayer-funded initiatives pushing a so-called "nuclear renaissance." While we engage with policymakers and agencies, our most powerful work happens at the grassroots, connecting with communities across Colorado to demand a cleaner, safer future.
We meet every Tuesday at 4 PM, and new members and supporters are always welcome. Whether it’s at a weekly meeting, a rally, or another action, we look forward to standing together with you.
Bring Power Home Pueblo (BPHPueblo) is a grassroots campaign established in 2019 to advocate for a publicly owned electric power utility.
BPHPueblo was established to terminate the franchise agreement with Black Hills Energy, which has taken advantage of the City of Pueblo by consistently raising rates, aware that Pueblo, as a disproportionately impacted and low-income community, cannot afford the increases. We pay 50% higher electrical rates than any other city in Colorado.
Bring Power Home Pueblo meets biweekly at a time that is convenient for the volunteers. We plan to counter Black Hills Energy’s propaganda advertisements by aiming to debunk their scare tactics. We prepare presentations for the city and county, conduct fundraising efforts, mail out materials, engage in canvassing, and participate in sign-waving.
With the hope that when the election occurs and ballots are delivered to every voter, the vote will end the franchise agreement. If you would like to join Bring Power Home Pueblo, please message us through Facebook or email info@roots2resilience.org.
